MSG “Victims” Share Stories

Debbie, thank you for tell your story. I had the same experience in 2001 when i was having symptom's and the doctors said everything was ok. Sausage Mcmuffins were a mainstay in my morning and by noon I could not even function. I felt stupid,  scared and puzzeled at the Idea I was epileptic, they took my drivers license and and said I could no longer work as an electrician. I had a gracious Boss who picked me up everyday for work and after 6 months on dilantin i was able to drive but still had the problems of diziness siezure's and always tired. With old habits hard to break i ate the same foods and lived the same life hoping the doctors were correct and I was treated and good for now. Until one day I could not even get out of my truck when i got to the jobsite and started having a panic attack. It was then I hit rock bottom, I asked GOD if he would give me the answer because I to would not want to live like i demensia and was just losing my mind and my health I told him I could not handle this anymore with out him. I sat in my truck as if he would give me the answer and within minutes i kept saying MSG, MSG what is Msg. I was able to call my wife and had her look on the internet to find out what msg is. The spirit led her  to this website and I have never had medications or any symptoms. It has been a long time since I visited your site and now am a firm beleiver that Msg is a major issue. Our family is so blessed by your willingness to publish all this information, and If  God thought it was ok, He wouldn"t have given us the answers to our heart felt prayer's. Thank you so much for the energy you put into serving other's and God. May you be blessed all of your day's. Feel free to post this if  you so desire.  JOHN M MAHER

By A. D. on December 24, 2011:  Hello, I reviewed your website and found it off google.com and I saw that you have a few things listed for allergy to MSG... the point is my son is 1 and has a rare disease called mastocytosis in 3 different forms. One of the big allergy or triggers for this disease is MSG. His disease not only cause serious allergies to everything including sunlight but causes cancer (mast cell luekemia), MSG is the number one thing on the list of NO NO's to give a child with mastocytosis and since only 200,000 cases of mastocytosis are known in the world could you please add it onto your website so that doctors can help more children. Right now my child has a 50% survival rate and if it developes the cancer will only live 2-6 years to live, if we can get more awareness then we can get more people to research a cure and as of now most doctors have no idea what it is. So Please since MSG is the topic and a huge Mastocytosis problem please help us and add this disease to your list on your website.

Your article on the web "Battling the MSG Myth" starts with: "You have reached us because you or someone you care about is suffering from puzzling chronic conditions such as headaches...". I knew precisely at that moment that my 19 year old daughter's problems were over. For years since about the age of five, Alex always felt dizzy, had a growling stomach, threw up often, and had headaches. Always, her doctor would test the sugar levels and tell me there was nothing wrong with her. We went to the neurologist because of the dizziness and the vision problems that started occurring at about age seven. On and on through the years we coped with headaches, body aches, neck aches, dizziness, and her inability to learn her lines (she studied acting.). At 19, Alex couldn't function anymore. She had a headache everyday. Could not go out with her friends for fear of getting ill and having to run home with a headache. Often going to the hospital for shots when the headache reached a "10". So she decided to do something about it and started going to many doctors. She had her wisdom teeth removed. She had her sinuses operated on. She went to yoga classes. She got glasses, but she kept getting worse. My 19 year old child would lie in my arms with dark circles under her eyes, chills, shivers, headaches, and many tears shed. I grew desperate and helpless. Thank you, Ms. Anglesey. Too many times we save ourselves and not care about others, but you have taken the time to do something for others. I read your information on the Internet and bought your book. That was about one month ago and my child is happy and healthy. Now in the evenings instead of lying in my arms in pain, she's out having a good time or taking lessons of some sort. All the pain in her body has ceased and the headaches are almost gone completely. She understands it's the MSG, and once in a while, will eat something she shouldn't and will get sick. But she's learning to eat correctly when she's out, and your book has been a blessing. You make it so easy, you give so many alternatives and the recipes are delicious. We are all eating better.
Please feel free to post my testimonial on the web if you feel it would help others. It's the least I can do. I have already forwarded your article and the book information to a friend whose husband suffers from headaches and pains and Alexandra has mentioned it to her doctor. Thank you once again. It almost seems unreal. I still ask Alex at least five times a day... Do you have a headache?, Does your neck hurt?, Are you OK?... I get a very cheerful... "I feel fine mom...." Nice words to hear. Once again, thank you for caring.

Dear Debby
A huge thank you for taking your time and research and putting it into publication. You are a God send to me. I have the same story as you, very healthy but suffering like I was ready for the grave! Great things are happening for me since I have been watching and eating very carefully. I have only had a couple of migraines, no sick stomach, or chest pressure, bad vision (I even had Lasic surgery on my eyes because I was suffering badly wearing contacts!) etc. etc. I just wanted to say thank you again and again. I now have a better attitude about tomorrow. It was really getting bad not being able to even function. I would have to go to bed on medication for sometimes 3 days. I even had a sick migraine for 2 weeks this last month.
Its wonderful to have it all laid out for me in your book. I never would have guessed cornstarch, pectin ( I use these a lot, especially making all homemade jams.) would affect me. Every time I ate freezer strawberry jam I would get that awful headache.
Please know that you are really blessing a lot of us and I am so grateful. Thank you, thank you thank you!

By R. on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 - 10:18 am: Jen, Everything we eat has glutamates. I suggest you read Debby's book, "Battling the MSG Myth" as soon as you can. You will not believe how much MSG you are eating. Restaurants are bad news! ...Debby's book has a wealth of information. Good luck, and hope to hear you're feeling better soon.

By B. S. on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 - 09:06 pm: My husband made the swiss steak recipe from your book, Deb. It was delicious!! Thanks again!

By E. on Friday, February 09, 2001 - 04:01 am: When I was five I ate raman noodle soup (a lot)and almost two days later I had a seizure. My mom took me to the doctor and they gave me an EEG. Nothing showed up. Someone told my mom that maybe MSG caused my seizure, so we stopped eating it (under the name MSG). I am eight now and I've had really bad headaches and pressure behind my eyes for the past three years. Recently I accidently ate MSG at a chinese restaurant and 44 hours later I had another seizure. My mom checked out this website and put me on an MSG free diet (hidden names, too). My headaches and eye pressure pain were gone in a week. I don't mind my new diet, in fact I kind of like it. My mom makes me yummy buttercreme candies from our new MSG free cookbook and I love them! My mom wants to know if other people get seizures from MSG. My doctor doesn't believe it happens and my mom wants to prove to him that it does.

By A. on Friday, July 13, 2001 - 02:04 pm: Dear Deb, I ordered a few of your cook books for myself and a couple of friends. Anyhow I will be ordering a couple very soon. One for the local hospital in my neighborhood. They swear up and down that no MSG is in the hospital meals. Right! So they will get a copy of your book. Maybe it will do some good. Also the lung specialist that I am not going to will get my copy and I will need to replace it. I am reading the beginning again at your recent suggestion. There is so much information in there that one needs to almost know the book by heart. The information is a tremendous help. Keep up all of your good work. Your book is worth ten times what the current cost is.

By DJ on Wednesday, May 02, 2001 - 11:09 am: Hi, What would be a really good investment for you, if you don't already have it, is Deb's cookbook. I have made her magic chocolate cake so many times these last few weeks....it has become a staple in our house. We eat it without icing, but with vanilla ice cream....it is delicious!!! She has a ton of recipes for cakes and other goodies...You really don't need any flavourings. DJ

By S. on Monday, November 20, 2000 - 08:44 am: I just learned that my horrific headaches have been caused all along from MSG. ... Debby A, I love your book. I read it until 2 in the morning. It all makes sense now. I had more than half of the other symptoms and I know most of my friends do too. Thank you for this site and all the work you are doing to help people like me. This whole thing just infuriates me!

... "I began suffering from extreme migraines. I would become nauseous and would often vomit. The emergency room was the only relief quite a few times. I saw doctors at Johns Hopkins and spent $150 on different medicines, to no avail. Doctors said it was stress. I started getting sick a lot which was out of the ordinary. In three months I had strep throat and bronchitis, each twice, and the flu a number of times. I also had shortness of breath and light headedness. After five months of this, I had hit rock bottom. I received a call from home telling me about the effect MSG had on Debby and her family. It sounded so familiar so I immediately went off MSG products. Within a week, I felt like a new person. My headaches were gone and my throat, which was always sore, felt better. My ears no longer hurt and I actually began to sleep soundly for the first time in years. I used to wake up in the middle of the night and lay there for two to three hours before falling asleep again. I have so much more energy, and I can concentrate for longer periods of time. In college, my teachers would ask if I had an attention disorder because of my short attention span. I had suffered from water retention for years. No longer! I now lead a regular life as long as I watch what I eat." She goes on to ask me to hurry and finish the cook book for her and others.

Dr. Stephen Collins, D.C. of Fremont, California writes, "Your book is excellent. I'm telling many doctors about it."

Dr. Dennis Park, D.D.S. of Kennewick, Washington writes, "Thank you for taking the time to compile such a helpful book."

Dear Debby,
We were so glad to get your book. We have been researching MSG on our own and there is not a lot of information out there on MSG.
My husband was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease. He was put on fluid pill and Diazepam for dizziness.
My husband still continued to have spells and we had him on a very low salt diet, like they told us to do, and it still was not helping a whole lot.
My mother came across a book on MSG (our book), she thought to herself these are exactly the same symptoms he has when he goes into an attack. She gave us the book and we read it and started working on this on our own.
He went to the Chiropractor and he tested him on Accent which was 100% MSG. His ear started to ring, his neck started to get tight, he had a fullness feeling in the top of his head, and his left leg drew up approximately 2 to 2 1/2 inches more than the right leg.
We immediately started reading labels and going on a MSG free diet, which is very hard to do, basically fresh fruits, vegetables, and fresh cuts of meat, as you know. Since we started the MSG free diet, he has gone 30 days without an attack.
We went to Dr. XXX. We began telling him about the "MSG Myth" and he didn't have a whole lot to say except that Meniere's Disease has a way of coming and going like that. He didn't want to believe we had maybe found a cure for his problem. Time will tell, but we hope this is the answer.
Thank you

I heard from the young father referred to in the letter above. He called to thank me for "saving his life". He had been close to having brain surgery to correct his spinning feeling. The surgery meant severing a nerve to his brain and possible damage. He would have to relearn certain motor skills. He has been doing great as long as he avoids MSG.

We hear from people like this all the time; people and their family and friends who have been suffering for years, even after doctors' diagnoses, painful tests, and strong prescription drugs. We have talked to people who had to take their children out of school because of ADD who tell us now their children are thriving without MSG and excitotoxins. Some have told of unnecessary gall bladder surgeries and misdiagnosed asthma. We have written this book to help others reclaim their health as we have.
